VA Gov. McAuliffe Negotiating With Redskins For New Stadium

Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe said on an ESPN radio show Friday that Virginia is in serious negotiations with the team to build a new stadium in the commonwealth, Reston Now reports.

McAuliffe is courting the team to move to a site along the Silver Line—he named multiple areas including Tysons, Reston/Wiehle and Dulles Airport. The team, which has a lease at FedEx Field until 2027, currently practices in Ashburn, VA.

Owner Dan Snyder hired famed architect Bjarke Ingels to design a new stadium. The concept is rendered above, but the location has yet to be determined.

DC Mayor Muriel Bowser has also been courting the football team, but it’s seemed unlikely to come to fruition unless the team’s name changes, which, as long as it’s owned by Snyder, seems just as unlikely.
