University of Maryland is currently reviewing construction bids for two projects on its College Park campus — the next phase of the Cole Field House renovations and new housing for on-campus students.
Gilbane, a Providence, Rhode Island-based construction company that’s frequently worked with the university, is acting as the construction manager for both. In April, it signed a deal with UMd. to build new graduate student housing, including townhomes.
Phase 2 of the Cole Field House improvement effort is valued at $155 million, according to a construction leads website. The university accepted applications for 17 bid packages, including fire protection and electronic safety and security, among others.
The first phase of the Cole Field House renovation began in 2016 and was partially funded with a $25 million donation from UMd. alum and Under Armour (NYSE: UA) founder Kevin Plank. The ribbon-cutting for a finished part of the project, an indoor football field, took place at the end of 2017. Work is ongoing.
