The long-planned redevelopment of D.C.’s Sursum Corda housing community could be moving forward soon.
Toll Brothers acquired the site at M and First streets NW from the Sursum Corda Cooperative Association for $60M and plans to move forward with development plans, the Washington Business Journal reports.
The cooperative, working with Winn Development Co., put the project through the first stage of entitlements in 2016, when it was approved for more than 1,100 residential units and 41K SF of retail across five buildings. The project would have 199 affordable units, with 136 of them for current Sursum Corda residents. Winn had been working as an entitlement partner but did not plan to stay on the project through its development.
Pennsylvania-based Toll Brothers plans to file the more detailed stage-two application within the next year, and begin work on the initial building within six months of the application’s approval.
