For years, Prince George’s County officials have promised redevelopment around Largo Town Center.
But it wasn’t until they finally received state approval on Thursday to begin building Prince George’s Regional Medical Center — the centerpiece of the project — that they could finally show off those plans.
Key to the project will be a state-of-the-art teaching hospital led by the University of Maryland Medical System to replace the floundering Prince George’s Hospital Center. The hospital — proposed by a partnership between UMMS and Dimensions Healthcare System, the cash-strapped hospital network that now operates Prince George’s Hospital Center — is expected to be complete by July 2020.
