If there is one thing the leaders of Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C., can agree on, it’s that they need to be building more bridges across the Potomac — literally, not figuratively.
But how many bridges, who should pay for them and where they will be was a matter of considerable debate at Wednesday morning’s Capital Region Business Forum, in which Gov. Larry Hogan, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe exchanged jabs over who should cover the tab.
When asked about the possibility of another bridge crossing north of the American Legion Bridge between Montgomery County and Fairfax County, Va., by moderator and George Washington University President Steven Knapp, Hogan was less than enthusiastic, noting several times how little money Virginia contributes to river crossings because Maryland’s border extends across the span of the river.
