Term Limits Proposal Faces Court Challenge

An opponent of an effort to impose term limits on local elected officials has filed a court challenge of the signatures on a petition that would put the measure on November’s ballot, claiming some failed to adhere to specific state instructions for ballot initiatives.

Former Rockville City Council member Tom Moore said Friday some of the listed names lack signatures or include names and addresses, but no signature; and many have dates that used ink or penmanship that didn’t match that of the signer.

“The handwriting doesn’t match the signer, and you just can’t do that,” said Moore, chairman of “No On B,” the organization formed to oppose the term limits proposal. “The problem with dates is systemic. We checked all through the signatures and they’re everywhere.”
