Team Picked To Study Rosslyn-To-Georgetown Gondola

A team led by ZGF Architects LLP is the pick to study the feasibility of running a gondola between Georgetown and Rosslyn.

ZGF beat out seven other teams for the six-figure contract. The firm — based in Portland, Oregon, with an office in D.C. — has led similar feasibility studies elsewhere, including the preliminary concepts for the Portland Aerial Tram, the popular aerial tramway connecting the city’s South Waterfront district with the Oregon Health & Science University campus.

ZGF has laid out a five-month project schedule for submitting its final assessments, recommendations, and conceptual renderings. D.C.-based Livable City Group will assist with project management and navigating federal and state regulatory processes.

A request for proposals was issued Feb. 12 seeking “a planning, transportation, and engineering team to perform a technical feasibility assessment and system recommendation for a gondola ropeway system connecting Georgetown to the Rosslyn Metrorail station.”
