Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker wants to keep Washington’s NFL team — but he’s not going to break the bank to do it.
Despite pushback against public financing (such as tax breaks) for new stadium projects and a less than receptive response for a Virginia stadium by its local elected leaders last week, Baker said it makes sense to offer financial incentives as part of a larger economic development effort.
Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker said he will not offer more to build a new NFL stadium in the county than makes financial sense.
“It’s an important corporation here and we will treat them like any other corporation we want to keep,” Baker said as part of a roundtable with Washington Business Journal reporters and editors. “We are not going to go over the balance sheet. We are going to make sure we are competitive.”
