Nexus Health Inc., which operates Fort Washington Medical Center, has appointed Chief Financial Officer Joseph Tucker as acting CEO and president of the Prince George’s County health system, effective immediately.
Board Chairman Henry Mosley told employees in a recent letter that Tucker would replace interim CEO Reginald Jones — who had served in that role for more than two years — while also remaining in the role of CFO. The hospital has hired an executive search firm to find a permanent chief executive.
The letter did not give a reason for Jones’ departure, but Nexus spokeswoman Nicole Jordan said he left to pursue other opportunities. When asked why the hospital has had an interim CEO for so long, she said the health system has been focused more on its growth and quality of service.
Jones, whose background appears to lean more toward technology business development, also lists himself as the vice president of business development for D.C. federal IT services company Vire Consulting Inc. since 2014, according to his LinkedIn page. He had served on Nexus’ board from 2010 to 2015, according to that LinkedIn profile.
Fort Washington, at 11711 Livingston Road, is one of Prince George’s County’s smaller acute-care hospitals, with 37 beds and about 400 employees. In all, it counted 2,265 admissions and 485 inpatient surgical procedures in fiscal 2016, which ended Dec. 31. The hospital also saw 41,474 visits to its emergency department, 1,163 observation visits and 1,724 outpatient surgeries in 2016.
