Prince George’s County Lands Two Of The Top 10 Most Expensive Construction Projects In Greater Washington

Crane Watch is in a constant state of flux, as it should be.

The vast majority of the projects we started with in 2017 when we launched the interactive map of the region’s largest ongoing construction projects have been completed, and replaced with, essentially, an entirely new set.

All but two of the projects in the gallery above, the top 10 largest projects underway right now (plus one bonus), are relatively recent additions.

No. 8: University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center
Developer: University of Maryland Medical System
Location: Largo Town Center
Costs: $543 million
Description: The state of the art teaching hospital will replace the long struggling Prince George’s Hospital Center in Cheverly. The hospital will include 2o5 beds, plus centers devoted to cancer and stroke care, a self contained pediatric hospital and programs in neuroscience and woman health.
Delivering: 2021

No. 9: Town Square at Suitland federal Center
Developer: Redevelopment Authority of Prince George’s County, Horizon Real Estate Group, Mission First
Location: Suitland
Costs: $400 million
Description: This multiphase project will total more than 1 million square feet, with 865 apartments in homes, 98,000 square feet of retail and a 50,000 square foot performing arts center. The first phase will include 219 townhomes and 137-unit senior apartment building.
Delivering: First phase 2020
