Is Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker III running for governor?
He all but said so on a visit to C4 Monday.
“I certainly am looking at 2018,” he said.
Reminded by the WBAL host that he earlier said he’d have a decision after the presidential election, the Democrat demurred and said he’d have something to say after the state legislative session.
“I am going to spend a lot of time up here, a lot of time up in Baltimore County and the western parts of the state,” Baker said. “I think there are real improvements we need to be making in this state.”
Asked specifically what those issues include, he discussed accountability in education funding. Maryland’s constitution requires the state to ensure the quality of public schools.
“That’s not just a city issue. That’s a state issue and you’re the governor,” Baker said. “You don’t want any of them falling and that should be your critical mission, not just saying, ‘Hey, I funded them, good luck.'”
