Prince George’s Council Blocks Wal-Mart Expansion In Landover Hills

The Prince George’s County Council moved Tuesday to block Wal-Mart from a proposed expansion to a store in Landover Hills, according to The Washington Post.

Residents neighboring the Capital Plaza location had opposed the 35,200-square-foot expansion, which was to improve grocery offerings, because of the store’s steady deterioration and because it failed to spur economic development.

“We cannot support an expansion until they respond to our issues with the current store,” Denise Hamler, leader of a coalition charged with upholding a longtime agreement between the community and the store, told The Washington Post.
