The idea to build a new hospital east of the Anacostia River has been revived: Mayor Muriel Bowser said Friday the United Medical Center board voted to take the first steps in selecting a future site to replace the long-struggling hospital.
The board will reconvene next week to review letters of interest from firms with experience in conducting site selection studies. Board members expect to decide by the end of the month and work on site studies in August for a new Southeast D.C. hospital.
“This vote by the UMC board is a positive indication that its members share my vision for a new, more efficient health care delivery system that will further our efforts in improving the health outcomes throughout the District,” Bowser said in a statement.
