Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz said Wednesday his administration will open a dialogue with PayPal in the near future about the possibility of the corporate giant opening a new global operations center in a location like Metro Centre in Owings Mills.
Kamenetz said the county received a response to a letter he sent last week to executives at San Jose, Calif.-based PayPal. The letter reached out to the online payment company after it announced it rejected a deal to move a 400-employee global operations center to North Carolina following adoption of a law in that state widely viewed as being anti-gay.
“We’ve made some contact and we’re going to make our pitch,” Kamenetz said in an interview. “Our feeling is the door is open and we intend to walk through it.”
Kamenetz said his staff is working on setting up a meeting with PayPal in the coming weeks. He said he will highlight certain locations in the county like Metro Centre or Baltimore Crossroads, a new mixed-use community being built off of Route 43 in White Marsh.
