Maryland’s small business climate has improved over the past year, according to a website that helps users find local service professionals.
San Francisco-based Thumbtack revealed this week that the state’s overall landscape merited an “A” grade within the company’s 2019 Small Business Friendliness Survey, making it the ninth highest-ranked state in the U.S.
The grade also marks an improvement over prior years. As recently as 2015 the same survey gave Maryland a “D+” grade.
The state receieved a “B+” grade last year, but changes in several categories helped the state bolster its performance in the survey this year. Those categories include:
Ease of starting a business (from B- to A+)
Regulations (C- to C+)
Tax code (F to C+)
Licensing (C- to B-)
Government websites (F to A+)
