The Maryland Health Care Commission will vote Thursday on whether to approve plans for a proposed regional medical center in Prince George’s County, a project endorsed by its reviewer earlier this month.
The $543 million project is a joint venture between the private nonprofit Dimensions Healthcare Systems, which has run county hospitals for more than three decades, and the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS).
The regional medical center is designed to replace the county’s aging trauma center in Cheverly. Supporters say it would anchor an improved health-care system targeting all of Southern Maryland and provide an economic boost for the town of Largo, where the center would be located.
