Media Works Ltd.’s CEO said she is disappointed her company is losing a media buying contract with the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency to an out-of-state competitor.
Michele Selby’s Baltimore-based firm currently handles media buying for the state lottery while GKV handles advertising. However, Media Works will not be awarded the with the state’s latest contract. The state lottery is seeking approval from the Board of Public Works to award the $115.5 million contract to Baltimore-based GKV and Marc USA, of Pittsburgh.
The lottery was one of Media Works’ five biggest accounts, Selby said.
The Board of Public Works is scheduled to vote on the contract at its next meeting on Wednesday.
If approved, GKV and Marc USA would be awarded a three-year contract with an additional two-year option and a six-month option. GKV would be awarded an advertising contract worth $28.6 million. Marc USA’s contract for media planning and buying is $86.3 million. The contracts include the firms’ fixed fees and the state’s budget for advertising and media buying.
