The Live Casino & Hotel in Hanover will distribute about $19 million to Anne Arundel County government agencies and community organizations this year.
The new grants bring the total amount awarded under the annual program to nearly $130 million since the casino opened in 2012. The state law authorizing casinos in Maryland requires Live to reserve 4.51 percent of its revenue from slot machines for the grants, which this year totaled $19 million.
The Local Development Council, a 15-member group of residents and elected officials, advises the casino on how to distribute the money. To be eligible, organizations must work within a three-mile radius of the casino.
Anne Arundel County Executive Steve Schuh and other local officials gathered in the casino’s new event center Tuesday for a ceremony marking the awards. The Cordish Cos., Live Casino & Hotel’s developer, also released two new renderings showing an expansion of the event center space, which is scheduled to be complete next summer.
