Ike Leggett says he will not seek a fourth term as Montgomery County executive.
Leggett, a former Howard University law professor who became the county’s first African American councilman and county executive, first announced publicly Sunday he would not run again at a fundraiser for an anti-term-limits group.
“I have to think about my family and other things I want to do,” Leggett, 71, told Bethesda Magazine on Tuesday. He said he might return to teaching or his legal practice, according to the report.
According to The Washington Post, George Leventhal, D-At large, Roger Berliner, D-Potomac, Marc Elrich, D-At large, Nancy Floreen, D-At large and Craig Rice, D-Germantown-Damascus are seen as potential contenders for the county executive seat.
