Howard University has selected a team to master plan the redevelopment of its 23.3-acre School of Divinity property in Brookland, a largely untapped property though one that is unlikely to be developed with significant density.
D.C.-based FLGA LLC Real Estate Group and Orlando-based ZOM Living will immediately begin their due diligence and master planning activities for Howard’s East Campus, the university announced. The property, at 1400 Shepherd St. NE, is largely vacant land with three existing structures, two of which are historic and will be retained. The divinity school operated there until 2015.
“We look forward to advancing the transformation of the East Campus to a living and learning community,” Howard President Wayne Frederick said in a release. “Our plans will serve the mission of the Divinity School and also support the immediate and surrounding communities.”
Over the course of six to 12 months, the university said, Howard will “work with this well-capitalized master developer” to conduct due diligence, hear from the community and “identify executable development options” for the site. FLGA and ZOM may be retained to actually build out whatever is planned, but it does not appear that is guaranteed.
