Hogan Nominates Outgoing Howard County Executive Kittleman For High-Paying Gig

Outgoing Howard County Executive Allan Kittleman (R) has found a soft landing after his defeat in November’s election.

Gov. Lawrence J. Hogan Jr. (R) announced Wednesday that he has appointed Kittleman to the Maryland Workers’ Compensation Commission.

Kittleman, who is also a former state senator and minority leader, is a lawyer who has more than 30 years of experience working with issues related to workers’ compensation, according to the governor’s announcement. Kittleman handled workers’ comp claims in three different law firms for 16 years and worked as a paralegal for a law firm that specialized in the practice. In the Senate, he served on the Finance Committee, which handles legislation related to workers’ comp.

Also named to the commission on Wednesday was Howard L. Metz, an attorney and court-appointed mediator from Frederick.

The governor made the selections following a review of the candidates who submitted applications, according to a news release.

According to state law, commissioners work full time. Commissioners’ salaries are set in the state budget and must be at least equal to that of a District Court judge. The current salary for District Court judges in Maryland is $146,333.
