GSA Seeking Help With Big Agency Move To Prince George’s

The General Services Administration has put out a call to contractors interested in helping to move part of the Department of Homeland Security to a new headquarters being developed in suburban Maryland.

The GSA recently posted a Sources Sought notice to beta.sam.gov to contractors, including certified small businesses, ahead of the big U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services move to a site by the Branch Avenue Metro station in Prince George’s County. Some 3,700 CIS employees are slated to move from a half-dozen sites across the region to One Town Center in Camp Springs between July 22 and Oct. 30, according to the notice. Contractors will also be expected to move the excess furniture and equipment that doesn’t fit at One Town Center to the GSA’s Springfield warehouse.

It’s the first time the GSA has disclosed a firm move window after awarding the $256.6 million lease to an affiliate of Peter N.G. Schwartz. The posting, which only seeks information, will be followed by a more formal solicitation.

The headquarters award was a major win for Prince George’s, which hosts significantly fewer federal agencies and jobs than other jurisdictions in Greater Washington. The county was lobbying for another major federal employer at the same time CIS was awarded, but the GSA cancelled the regional search for a new FBI campus.
