Several years after first eying an abandoned warehouse adjacent to the West Hyattsville Metro station in Prince George’s County, Bobby Gilbane can’t wait to tear down the 250,000-square-foot structure and get started on The Riverfront.
The 18.5-acre site, the first phase of which will go before the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission March 2, is planned for 183 townhomes, 300-multifamily rental units, 10,000 square feet of retail and a 4.5 -acre park.
The warehouse property at 5620 Ager Road had been mired in bankruptcy when Gilbane picked it up for $7 million in September 2015, said Gilbane.
The project has the backing of the Hyattsville City Council, provided Gilbane meets some development conditions, including Americans with Disability Act access to the park’s natural amphitheater, a lighting upgrade and native tree planting.
Gilbane Co. is in the process of partnering with both an architect and a townhouse developer on the project. The townhouse phase would deliver first, said Gilbane.
