A federal grand jury has indicted a former Maryland liquor board commissioner on two counts of bribery involving allegations of taking cash in exchange for favorable votes, authorities announced Wednesday.
Federal law enforcement officers arrested Anuj Sud, 39, of Hyattsville earlier this year as part of a wide-ranging corruption investigation into members of the Prince George’s County liquor board, liquor store owners and state legislators.
Sud received at least $3,000 in bribes in exchange for taking official action as a member of the liquor board that would favor those who paid him in 2015 and 2016, authorities charged in an affidavit. Sud voted on giving a restaurant a new liquor license, approving drive-through sales or allowing a business to sell alcohol on Sundays in exchange for the cash, court documents alleged.
Sud resigned from the liquor board after his arrest.
