Foreclosures are going up in Greater Washington — with Prince George’s and Montgomery counties leading the way.
Prince George’s County has seen a jump in completed foreclosures — houses that were foreclosed upon and went through the entire process — over the last few years. In 2012, there were 1,091 completed foreclosures in the county, but that number has steadily grown to 1,934 in 2015, according to data provided to the Washington Business Journal by housing data firm RealtyTrac.
Montgomery County is also seeing an increase in foreclosures. In 2012, completed foreclosures hit a low of 205 in the county, but that grew to 1,039 in 2015. The data is based on publicly recorded mortgage and deed of trust data collected and licensed by RealtyTrac nationwide and is used to create a database of more than 140 million properties.
