Embattled social media company Facebook Inc. has its eyes on Tysons.
Even as it answers increasing questions from Capitol Hill, the Menlo Park, California, company is close to a deal to lease between 75,000 and 85,000 square feet at 1775 Tysons Blvd. from Lerner Enterprises, according to two sources speaking on the condition of anonymity in order to disclose sensitive real estate matters.
The new location would be in addition to 75,000 square feet that Facebook (NASDAQ: FB) leased last year at Terrell Place in the District, where it employs 150 people but has room for around 400 seats. The company, which multiple sources said has imposed tight nondisclosure agreements on its search, has retained Cushman & Wakefield to handle the search.
Facebook spokesman Jamil Walker said the company does not comment on speculation about its real estate searches.
“We prefer not to engage in external communication that could jeopardize a pending deal,” he said, given the “supercompetitive” nature of commercial real estate.
