The $160 million Exelon tower in Harbor Point will soon be filled with workers.
Close to 1,500 employees of the Chicago-based energy giant are getting ready to move from offices at 750 E. Pratt St. and the Candler Building at 111 Market Place into the new digs that total 444,000 square feet, company officials said Wednesday.
The office portion of the 648,000-square-foot, 21-story tower will be shown off to the public on Nov. 4 during a grand opening to be attended by Chris Crane, president and CEO of Exelon, Gov. Larry Hogan, Sen. Ben Cardin and Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake.
The Exelon Corp. headquarters development was part of a highly touted plan unveiled in 2012 to redevelop the last remaining portion of the city’s waterfront. The 27-acre Harbor Point was once the home to Allied Chemical plant where chromium was manufactured. Developer Michael Beatty had to drill through a protective cap installed on the property by Honeywell, which bought Allied Chemical, to protect it from the toxic contamination in order to construct the Exelon tower.
