Every Maryland casino except one saw strong year-over-year revenue increases in January, building on the modest growth the industry saw in December.
Overall, the state’s six casinos brought in $145.5 million in January, a 6.2% increase compared to January 2019. The revenue jump follows slower growth at the end of the year, as the casinos saw only 0.5% growth in December and November.
Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore was the only casino in the state to see its revenue fall in January. The Baltimore casino saw its revenue drop 4.4% from January 2019 to $19.3 million. The casino’s management is hoping that plans for a forthcoming entertainment district on Warner Street, as well as new additions like an outdoor gaming terrace and a rewards experience center, will help set Horseshoe back on track.
Four of the state’s casinos saw double-digit revenue increases, led by Hollywood Casino Perryville which saw revenue jump 12.1%. Anne Arundel County’s Live Casino & Hotel was close behind with a 11.8% increase. Ocean Downs Casino saw an 11% jump and Western Maryland’s Rocky Gap Resort saw its revenue rise by 10.5%.
MGM National Harbor continued to pull in more revenue than any other state casino with $58.5 million, but recorded a small increase of 4.1%.
