With state regulators approving the project, Dominion Virginia Power says construction will begin later this year on a $1.3 billion power plant in Southside Virginia.
The State Corporation Commission gave the green light Tuesday to the Greensville Power Station, a natural gas-fired energy project that will straddle the Greensville-Brunswick county line on 55 acres.
Dominion said the projected financing costs for the plant would be reflected in a rate increase estimated at 75 cents per 1,000 kilowatt hours.
Dominion said the power plant’s construction will create more than 1,000 jobs. About 45 full-time positions will run the plant once it’s on line in 2019. It will generate 1,588 megawatts of electricity.
