The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission’s (M-NCPPC) Prince George’s County Planning Department announced Monday that county attorney M. Andree Green has been selected to serve as the department’s new director.
Green – who was appointed by the county executive to lead the Prince George’s County Office of Law in 2011 – brings more than 20 years of specialized experience in land use law and policy development, having managed a staff of 54 professionals, including 34 attorneys, and an operating budget of nearly $7 million. Her extensive experience also includes private sector practice and litigating land use cases in Maryland’s trial and appellate courts.
Prior to her appointment, Green served 11 years as M-NCPPC’s supervising attorney and lead counsel for its Prince George’s legal team, presiding over a specialized unit dealing primarily with the administrative process and litigation related to zoning, planning and the regulation of real estate development.
Green’s selection as planning director follows a publicly advertised search process, with interviews of several candidates conducted by a panel comprised of board members – including planning board vice chairwoman Dorothy Bailey – and a planning professional who recommended their selection to the full planning board for final action. She succeeds Fern Piret who retired last fall.
