The University of Maryland Medical System and Dimensions Healthcare System cut back their plans for the Prince George’s County Regional Medical Center by nearly $100 million, saying they could complete the project for $543 million.
Their new proposal — which also included a newly signed memorandum of understanding between the two hospital systems and the county — also cut back the number of operating rooms planned. It scaled back the average square feet per patient bed, the total bays in the emergency department and overall bed count, from 216 to 205.
The revised plan was turned in to Maryland regulators Wednesday. The modifications were the result of concerns raised by Maryland Health Care Commissioner Robert Moffit that the Prince George’s project was oversized. Projections of how much the project would cost have varied, tallying as high as $655 million. The latest certificate of need said the project estimate was dropped from $639 million.
