Baltimore Small Businesses Would Be Exempt From Minimum Wage Hike Under New Amendment

Small businesses would be exempt from a proposed Baltimore City minimum wage hike, under new amendments to a bill calling for an increase in the wage to $15 per hour by 2022.

City Councilwoman Mary Pat Clarke, who is sponsoring the bill, introduced an amendment on Thursday allowing any business with 50 or fewer employees or gross annual income under $500,000 to be excused from the bill’s provisions. The amendment was passed without discernible dissent by the City Council’s Labor Committee on Thursday.
