After an unsuccessful state-level bid to reduce the interest rate Anne Arundel pays on property tax refunds, County Executive Steve Schuh’s administration is taking the request to the County Council.
Council members next month will consider legislation that could save the county nearly $230,000 annually but would mean smaller refunds for residents and businesses who are overcharged on their property taxes.
Though a state-level agency, the Department of Assessments and Taxation, is responsible for assessing the value of properties in Anne Arundel, the county collects local property taxes and must pay refunds if a property owner successfully appeals an assessment.
