Amtrak says it has nine proposals from developers seeking to revamp Penn Station, a response to U.S. Rep. Elijah Cummings criticizing the government-owned railroad company for not taking action on improving the transit hub.
Amtrak CEO Joseph Boardman said during a congressional hearing Friday the company is still reviewing the proposals and wouldn’t go into detail about potential timelines or more specific plans for the site.
During the hearing with the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, which Cummings is a member of.
Much of the building is still sitting empty and in no way does it serve as the anchor point for Baltimore that it could and should be,” Cummings said of the building.
Cummings described the building as feeling “empty” and said improvements need to be made on the station beyond smaller, more basic projects.
