Amazon Plans To Build 1M-Plus SF Of Last-Mile Warehouses Across Maryland

Amazon is planning a major industrial expansion in Maryland, including at least two new warehouses in the D.C. suburbs.

The e-commerce giant plans to open seven new last-mile warehouses, with each facility spanning up to 200K SF and employing up to 200 people, an Amazon spokesperson told the Baltimore Business Journal.

The plans include two new facilities in Prince George’s County, in Lanham and Upper Marlboro. Amazon also plans to open in Glen Burnie, Hagerstown, Hanover and Waldorf, and it opened new facilities in Edgewood in the last two months.

The expansion comes as the coronavirus has created more demand for online deliveries. Amazon announced in April it hired 175,000 new employees to keep its operations running during the coronavirus pandemic.
